Avrilly Castle

Audio-guided or guided tour (July–August) of the Avrilly estate, which is entirely designated a Historic Monument: the 15th-, 17th-, and 19th-century castle surrounded by ponds, the chapel, the outbuildings, the stables, and the 107-hectare landscaped park.

Six centuries of history set within an extraordinary 107-hectare estate:
Avrilly is two castles in one, with two entrances and two main facades united in this “two-faced” castle.
The central main building features an almost square layout, around which six towers of varying sizes and shapes are arranged. The east and north facades are surrounded by the moat.
Four key phases mark its evolution:
15th century: construction of the castle.
17th century: construction of a prestigious entrance pavilion
19th and 20th centuries: expansion and construction of the south, southwest, and northwest towers; modification of the west facade and the roof of the main building; modernization and interior decoration
This castle, which is both old and new, called for a park designed according to the same logic—one that reconnects with the principles of architects of yesteryear but is reinvented with a fresh perspective.
The grounds thus offer a multitude of atmospheres, thanks to both the vegetation and the variety of water features: a French formal garden, a series of basins and moats, woodlands, remarkable trees, and a pond.
This unique ecosystem attracts an equally diverse array of wildlife.

• From June through September, audio-guided tours of the grounds are available from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., except on Saturdays.
• In July and August, guided tours of the interiors are available from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
• Group tours by appointment year-round: you’ll be welcomed by the owner, who will grant you exclusive access to parts of the château not open to the public.
