Born into a wealthy family, living off an income by the age of 42, a “bourgeois” and an eccentric, Louis Mantin bequeathed his exceptional home and the collection it housed in 1905 “so that visitors a hundred years from now might see an example of a 19th-century bourgeois residence.”
Built between 1893 and 1895 on part of the ruins of the Bourbon ducal palace, this picturesque building was designed to preserve and house the collection of its owner, a scholar, a man of curiosity, and an art lover.
Closed for several decades and damaged by the passage of time, this house underwent a truly monumental and meticulous restoration before its reopening.
